Mike has been a champion for the unborn by fighting for pro-life legislation. This includes:
- Leading the debate to protect unborn life by ensuring that federal Title X dollars are not used to fund abortion. (2017 Budget Debate)
- Co-sponsored and helped pass the ban on dismemberment abortion. (LB814 - 2020)
- Co-sponsored and helped pass the Abortion Pill Reversal bill. (LB 209 - 2019)
Mike has fought to protect and advance our Second Amendment rights, including introducing what “likely [was] the most significant expansion of gun rights since lawmakers enacted a concealed carry law in 2006” — a bill to preempt local gun laws that restrict gun ownership and possession. (LB68 - 2017)
Mike has fought for our law enforcement personnel and the safety of our communities. Mike introduced legislation to heighten penalties for attacks on law enforcement, and fought against and helped defeat a bill that would have eliminated mandatory minimum sentences. (LB577 - 2017) Mike has also supported Governor Ricketts’s efforts to build a new prison.
Mike has also supported efforts to secure our elections, including consistently supporting and fighting for sensible voter ID laws.
Mike has consistently fought to lower taxes, eliminate bureaucracy, and empower people to build businesses and achieve prosperity here in Nebraska. As Speaker the Legislature had one of the most successful tax cutting years in its history, including providing a record amount of property tax relief, cutting taxes on military retirement pensions, and cutting taxes on social security. Mike has introduced and passed bills to cut red tape in building roads, and helped expand broadband infrastructure around Nebraska.
Mike has a record of accomplishment of achieving major conservative victories in the Legislature, taking hard votes to support our values, and for fighting for our way of life and to protect our freedoms.
Nebraskans can count on Mike to do the same thing as Attorney General.
